About Glocal Design In 2006, back to his hometown Biella (I), Daniele Basso has started Glocal Design in the premises of a historic factory along the river. On the basis of "Think Global, Act Local", the newly established company intends to capitalise local excellences as assets on the global market and the key to well being. Glocal Design Studio Mission In our exclusive method of approaching each project, design is a strategic tool to enhance excellences, company and local competences in the global market. We at GD consider design as a 'tangible form of communication' and place the individual at the core of the industrial project in view of solutions that can really stir emotions. We rely on a network of professionals sharing the same way of thinking and the same working method.
A special event On 2007, March 29th, we launched, through a special event in Biella, city where my studio is located, the mirror collection, among which there is vespa mirror (motopattino 6). The collection is called “Guardiamoci in Faccia”. Biella is the city where the Vespa motor scooter has been designed, in 1946 by Corradino Dascanio.
The pictures refer to that event organized with the most important local authorities and some national authorities, gathering together for the first time President of ADI (Industrial Design Association), President of Unione Industriale Biellese (Biella Industrial Union), President of Giovani Imprenditori Biellesi (Young Biella Entrepreneurs) and President of Azienda Turistica Locale di Biella (Local Tourism Company of Biella).
The Mirror
Looking at yourself in the mirror is an innate ed ancestral gesture, a moment of personal care before stepping on stage and into society. The mirror is your tool to build the image that you want to convey. It is a transversal object found in all civilisations. Glocal Design Studio redesigns the mirror to stir a new level of awareness of individual responsibilities and confirm the ethical side of creative jobs and the key role that creative people play in industry and society. Glocal Design Studio considers industrial designers a sort of “novelty-catalyst enzymes”, capable of ferrying desires, thoughts and behaviours into everyday life through the products they develop. This further confirms that design is a "Tangible Form of Communication". Monopattino 6
A unique story, a magic flying carpet, a two-wheel car, a passport to modernity, a myth that renovates…an icon of style. As the first kiss: you remember the taste, not the face. Vespa is timeless experience that tastes of freedom, forest flowers, dried fruit, and mountains. Rumour
In the era of communication, check your six every time you're about to talk. The spectacularisation of people's life, violation of privacy and intercepts, morbid curiosity and starlets fill the newspapers and television ... without realising it, we are under control as never before in the history of man. The Goddess of Communications has got hold of us … Trust
And one day the rabbit will turn into a wolf .... Loneliness and Violence feed distrust that spreads in towns and villages where myriads of strangers just think of themselves..... Are you sure this is good for the children of your children? Skinny
Fantastic and terrific, hungry and greasy, an “anorexic hamburger" is wandering in our towns ready to strike … Anorexia, Bulimia and Obesity… “alimentary disorders” and senses of guilt take shape and fill us with dismay in the unlikely embrace of the two extremes of the same existential malaise … Frivolous
A continuous, ceaseless and exhausting effort to distinguish at all costs. A tribe of different people homologizing in provocation, victims of fashion yet unaware of their being unique ... too absent-minded to realise that the greatest transgression is to learn to be yourself! From Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2007
Bourguignonne
It’s not easy for me to choose my favorite recipe… as I am a gourmet weighing more than 100 kilos. I like almost everything. I love meat and I like a typical “Haute-Savoie” (France – I am half French, as my mother comes from Annemasse, near Geneve, but in France) dish very much, which is called “Bourguignonne”: beef meat cut into little cubes, that every fellow guest can cook sticking a special fork into, immersing into a traditional earthenware pot fixed at the center of the table. Inside of the pot, there is oil, previously warmed up and kept warm through oil cookers. The meat is then dressed with different sauces: mayonnaise, Tartar sauce, Rubra sauce, Tabasco, “green sauce”, “bagnetto”… and many others, up to your fantasy. Normally the meat is served with potatoes, cut into slices and cooked in the oven together with some cheese. The meal is best enjoyed drinking a good wine and ends with a greedy homemade “Mousse au Chocolat”. I cannot remember the exact recipes, but they can vary according to the situation too…. the most important ingredient is the mood.
My funny stories I have a lot of stories and anecdotes, especially about journeys. Now I remember when, in 2000, during a journey in Canada, I drove for around 2 hours to reach the small town called Chiqutimi (north-east, near St. Jemes bay), it was 3 o’ clock in the morning, on a road where only 1000 cars pass every year, and the aurora borealis in front of me! The sky turned green first, then electric blue.. so I decided to take a picture and as I needed a stable support for my photo camera, I turned off the car. Unfortunately I got my car to start again only when the aurora borealis ended… I’ve been in the middle of the taiga, with the window opened, nighttime, for one hour, in an area where some excursionists sighted a family of bears the day before… I was so scared!! The following day, as I arrived to destination, I slept in a Tee-pee of Crew Indians and actually I didn’t slept because of “nice” black cockroaches surrounding me (really annoying, especially for someone living in the city all year long)… then I stand up and go out to pee but I had to come back because I saw these family of bears, just 100 meters far from the camp! It has been a vacation full of adrenaline and freedom! I also have anecdotes about my birthdays… as I was born on 4th August, vacation time, I never celebrated my birthday at home… one year, I was at Salt Lake City (Usa), city of out-and-out Mormons, and I cannot even have a beer!! In 1999, instead, I was in a pub in New York, Soho, together with friends and colleagues, and I had to sing “I will survive” by Gloria Gaynor (I am desperately tone-deaf!) in front of 100 people I never met before! What a shame!! At the end, they also inflict me a punishment! But I think the most exciting and fantastic thing in my life is the coincidence or the fate that made me meet Raffaella, my mate. We met in Reno, Nevada (Usa), we attended the same classes and as we started talking we found out we were born on the same day, same year, same city, just 12 hours one after the other… I was born at 8:00 in the morning, she was born at 8:30 in the evening! We fell in love and fortunately the coincidences didn’t finish. 上一页:Claudia Santiago Areal 下一页:Euga Design
